About Howe Bay Beach House

A private oceanfront vacation home in Eastern PEI, designed for big views, slow mornings, and unforgettable low-tide walks.

Who We Are

A PEI Oceanfront Retreat Built for the View

Howe Bay Beach House is a private, oceanfront vacation rental near Souris, Prince Edward Island, set on a quiet stretch of coastline where the scenery changes with every tide. We fell in love with Howe Bay more than 20 years ago, and we still catch ourselves stopping mid-sentence to watch the water move across the red sand flats.

What guests talk about most is how exceptional the swimming and paddling are here. When the tide drops, a wide world opens up: guests love to paddle the canoe or kayaks across the deep channel to the vast sandbars that appear across the bay. At low tide, the sandbars are dotted with warm little pools—perfect for kids to splash and jump in—while grownups wander, explore, and take in the view. Another favourite? Floating with the current in the channel, then hopping back onto the sandbars and walking back along the shoreline.

We also love how much life this bay holds. It’s common to spot seals stretched out on the sandbars (sometimes 20 or more), popping up to keep an eye on you as you paddle closer. Eagles soar overhead, and guests have spotted rabbits and foxes along the dunes and coastal edges. Birders especially enjoy Howe Bay—more than 35 species have been identified by guests over the years.

Our home was designed to bring the shoreline indoors—windows and sliding doors along the ocean side create a front-row seat to wide skies, sea breezes, and golden evenings. Whether you’re planning a family week, a milestone getaway, or a relaxed trip with friends, this is a place to settle in and truly exhale.

About Our Accommodation

Inside the Beach House

The Beach House combines coastal comfort with “stay awhile” practicality. You’ll find open living areas, high wood ceilings, and cozy spaces for gathering—plus quiet corners for reading, puzzles, or a mid-afternoon nap with the ocean in the background.

For cooks (and snack-assemblers), the kitchen is set up for real meals: a large work island with an ocean view, quality appliances, and the room you need when everyone wants to help.

Outdoors is where the magic happens: a cedar sun deck, a screened-in porch, and a covered veranda that make it easy to follow the sun—or find shade—throughout the day. And for time on the water, we provide kayaks, a large canoe, and lifejackets, so you can make the most of Howe Bay’s calm conditions and changing tides.

A group of us—all women “of a certain age”—just spent a fantastic week in the amazingly beautiful house and secluded setting of “Howe Bay Summer Home”. We all either live in Maine or spend seasonal time there and we topped off the summer by bringing our bikes and kayaks and more, and settling in at Howe Bay. When we drove in after almost eight hours on the road, our first reaction was, “OH, WOW! We had seen the photos on the web site, of course, and they are good…but the reality of the house, the decks, the view and just the beauty of the place was so very much more! The house shone like the jewel it is—spotlessly clean and welcoming! We only had about an hour of daylight left, but we were everywhere….kayaks down to the water to be ready in the morning…food into the two (2!) refrigerators…gear into the bedrooms…bikes by the back porch…we were ready for our week! The “OH, WOW!” reaction never let up—every cabinet we opened, every room we explored was a testimony to the thoughtfulness of the owners! Supplies in the laundry, in the entrance bath, in the kitchen with the spices and cookware and utensils—anything anyone could need was there! Spare blankets, a huge supply of towels, lifejackets (we had our own, but it was good to see all of them) in every size….there was even a bottle of bubbles for kids (or adults for that matter). The viewing scope in the living room brought the bay into the living room to watch birds or just distant scenery. The cushions on the deck furniture….the beautiful sun-room…the 2nd floor balcony-deck….the large windows that brought all of that fantastic outdoors inside….all was designed for comfort, relaxation and beauty. The thoughtfulness of the owners was in every detail! We enjoyed fires in both the fireplace inside and the fire pit outside, and appreciated the ready supply of dry wood. The spaciousness of the house allowed for plenty of group areas, but there was enough room to spread out so that even with six of us, we could each find a comfortable spot to hunker in with a book or phone. Howe Bay summer Home was our own private little world for a week….and we loved it! Dawn walks on the beach, kayaking in the mornings, biking in the afternoons, sitting and watching moonrise in the evenings, exploring the island on the one rainy day, pickleball in Souris…we packed it in, and when we finally had to load up and return to Maine, we just kept repeating….”OH, WOW”! A lovely house on P.E.I…. With perfect views of bay and sky… Fields of red and gulls of white, Full moon rising at the edge of night… Morning paddles, evening fires, Small town churches with tall spires. Skeins of geese plus crows and more… could Early walks on a russet shore. Riding bikes on a well-groomed track— We loved it here and we’ll be back!

Loved our stay, the views were breathtaking and felt welcoming. Plenty of homeware for cooking/food storage. Was thankful for all those items you don't think to pack (bandaids, aloe vera etc). We didn't need to use any but thought it was very thoughtful. Our bedroom was great, bed was comfortable. Activities for everyone -games, books, outdoor activities, beach activities etc. We had 10 adults and 4 kids and there was plenty of space and things to do. Favorite area was the deck and taking in the views!
